Saltburn Folk Festival Coronavirus Covid-19 Update

Subject to securing safe venues and it being acceptable to hold large gatherings, Saltburn folk Festival 2021 will take place on: 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th August.

Hello again: This is week 45 continuing the countdown to Saltburn Folk Festival 2021. A new Registered Office & Ticket Sales

Due to the sad closure of Milo's on Station Street, the festival has had to find new premises for its registered office,   We have successfully negotiated a new Registered Office address, at Saltburn Community & Arts Association Ltd on Albion Terrace, Saltburn by the Sea, North Yorkshire TS12 1JW.  This will also be the address to send your postal enquires if you do not use the internet.

We continue to work to find new premises for the: Festival Office, Box Office, Artists' Reception and Volunteers' Reception.  You will be updated in these pages as we make progress.

We are pleased to confirm that the funding has carried over, many of our regular festival goers have asked that we hold the tickets they paid for and virtually all of the guests and performers booked for 2020 have agreed to return to Saltburn in 2021. You will be able to find their details and websites on the Artists tab above over the coming weeks as we add them, along with photographs of previous festivals.

It was decided at the Director's Meeting on October 7th that, as we are still unsure of the extent to which, Coronavirus infections will change through the winter, tickets will not go on sale until after Christmas, depending on the government response to the developing situation.

Many, of our ticket holders, volunteers, directors, artists and helpers are in the “at risk” category.  I continue in lockdown now in month seven, due to serious underlying health issues (lungs & heart) having been informed by my consultants that I will not survive a Covid-19 infection.

As you know, Saltburn came through the loss of John Taylor in October 2018, to run a superb event in 2019 and this year was to have been the consolidation of the festival (which started in 1968 at Redcar, 4 miles up the road) and has run unbroken for 51 years. As we continue to be in unchartered seas we all have to get through it, so we can emerge in 2021 (hopefully) to continue the tradition and keep our music and traditions alive.

2021 will see the launch of a whole gamut of new initiatives:

• Newcastle University Folk Music Degree Showcase (the cream of the 2020 intake)
• Damien Barber (New work funded by PRS Foundation)
• New work: Premier of new Graeme Miles Concert (The Ironopolis Singer)
• New location for the Campsite that will be open to all
• A free shuttle bus between campsite and town
• Working with Friday friends
• Free Festival Fringe events
• Children’s entertainment
• Launch of the John Taylor Memorial Award for composition and performance
• Facebook Page and Facebook group page
• Instagram account
• New exciting and unusual workshops

We also want to support our artists and performers during this challenging time.

COVID-19 has seen many festivals and folk clubs in the UK cancelled or postponed for April, May, June and into July, including Glastonbury, the Tour de Yorkshire, the Olympic Games  and most sporting events.

This is devastating for. millions of sports people, entertainers and folk musicians and especially so for emerging artists, so Saltburn Folk Festival would like to help support artists by publishing on our website and on social media any events you may still have or any other ideas, virtual concerts, events you may have for generating some cash for artists, over the shutdown period.
